Newspaper reading

Newspaper reading ……. A necessity; gives ,news and views; caters to the needs of various sections of the society; forms and moulds public opinion; link between the governments and the public; caution while reading newspapers.
Newspaper reading has become a necessity in the modern times. The world today appears to be smaller than it was in the 19th century. Newspapers do us a great service by bringing us news from every corner of the world. We feel as if it has happened in our neighborhood.
A newspaper caters to the needs of various sections of the society. A politician finds the views and reviews of others on the policy adopted by the government of a political party. A businessman can find the trends of the market and advertise his goods. A job seeker can find a suitable job through ‘situations vacant’ columns. For a bachelor and a worried father of a grown up daughter the’ matrimonial’ columns are of great help. A movie-fan can find which picture is being shown in a particular cinema. A sports fan gets the latest information about his favorite game being played in any part of the world. We came to know about the weather forecast through the newspapers. In brief, a daily newspaper contains all in formations that a man needs.
A newspaper plays a very important role in a democratic country. It forms and moulds public opinion. It is a good watch- dog of the policies that the government adopts. It provides an effective link between the government and the public. The government makes important announcement of its policies through the newspapers. The public can convey its approval or otherwise through the column ‘letters to editor’.

While reading newspapers, we should be at our guard. Sometimes newspapers become willing tools in the hands of vested interests. They do not place true facts before the public. So we should prefer independent judgment while reading them.
