Newspaper reading

Newspaper reading ……. A necessity; gives ,news and views; caters to the needs of various sections of the society; forms and moulds public opinion; link between the governments and the public; caution while reading newspapers.
Newspaper reading has become a necessity in the modern times. The world today appears to be smaller than it was in the 19th century. Newspapers do us a great service by bringing us news from every corner of the world. We feel as if it has happened in our neighborhood.
A newspaper caters to the needs of various sections of the society. A politician finds the views and reviews of others on the policy adopted by the government of a political party. A businessman can find the trends of the market and advertise his goods. A job seeker can find a suitable job through ‘situations vacant’ columns. For a bachelor and a worried father of a grown up daughter the’ matrimonial’ columns are of great help. A movie-fan can find which picture is being shown in a particular cinema. A sports fan gets the latest information about his favorite game being played in any part of the world. We came to know about the weather forecast through the newspapers. In brief, a daily newspaper contains all in formations that a man needs.
A newspaper plays a very important role in a democratic country. It forms and moulds public opinion. It is a good watch- dog of the policies that the government adopts. It provides an effective link between the government and the public. The government makes important announcement of its policies through the newspapers. The public can convey its approval or otherwise through the column ‘letters to editor’.

While reading newspapers, we should be at our guard. Sometimes newspapers become willing tools in the hands of vested interests. They do not place true facts before the public. So we should prefer independent judgment while reading them.

HOW TO OVERCOME THE FEELING OF INFERIORITY?

There is an essential element in human life, without which we cannot face the world successfully. That element is self respect.
With self respect you can conquer the world. Without it, you are defeated. It should be your firm belief that you are worthy it yourself and to your community.
If you suffer feeling from inferiority, understand how this feeling has come about; why it persists in your life and take practical steps to be free from such feeling.
A person felt bad in the presence of other people. When it is analyzed it was found that as a young boy he had a humiliating experience at a party. Later he tried to forget about it. But the experience had stayed with him.
A great deal of inferiority feeling is an expression of earlier humiliation. A small girl was sure of her mother’s affection. The one ambition of her infant life was to be accepted and loved by her mother. To her surprise a brother was born. She developed the feeling that her mother loved the baby but does not love her. And so inferiority feeling troubled her.
What does a child do when, in his search for satisfaction finds himself humiliated? He turns the energies that would normally go into fulfillment employs them in his rebellion.
As he cannot find fulfillment in acceptance and love, secretly he becomes the enemy of those who seem to “trouble” him and in rebellion; he gets a kind of satisfaction.
As he cannot get his joy out of being admired, he will suffer until his heart suffers with pain. This practice becomes habit forming. You must break this pattern of life at all costs.
As a child, you felt yourself rejected and therefore felt worthless. This was your first mistake. It is this first error you must rectify.
Now, repeatedly, you must tell yourself you are wanted and loved. You must break the feeling of humiliation and revenge by understanding its origin and by giving up the habit that rooted itself in your life.
You must create a new pattern of life. You cannot do it in a day. Constantly the old pattern of worthlessness will try to assert itself again. But you must continue to try and overcome such feeling.
Tell yourself that you are as good as anyone else. Insist on happiness and fulfillment. Build a new habit of thought and experience. Develop feelings of hope, optimism and happiness. Start every day  by strengthening your determination.
Make sure what your real desires are. Do you really want happiness, affection and success? Work this out everyday morning before you start the day. Once you have the right burning desire coupled with determination, the way to freedom is in your hands.
Believe in yourself. Increase your self-respect and appreciate your value. Know you are wanted and loved. Start life afresh knowing that the satisfaction of love and acceptance are richer in reward.

The choice of a profession

Life without an ambition is like a ship without a rudder. Those who aim at nothing achieve nothing. Ambitions, like professions, differ from man to man. Some people aim at wealth. Some at power and some at fame.
I do not like wealth because riches change hands. I do not like fame too because it is short lived. I do not like to become an engineer because his life is dull. Nor do I want to be a doctor. Because I have no taste for surgery.
A lawyer is always a liar. He coaches his clients to tell lies. He pleads for what is wrong. A businessman also believes in cheating his customers. He has also great lust for money.
I have decided to become a teacher. A teacher leads a noble life. He is the builder of the nation. A mother gives birth, but teacher gives worth. He plays a important role in shaping the habits, character and destiny of man.

He is not mad after money. He leads the contended life. He believes in simple living and high thinking. Thus I have decided to become a teacher. May god help me to realize my ambition I life!

GOOD MANNERS BRING HAPPINESS

There are three important aspects behind all good manners:
·         CUSTOM
·         CONSIDERATION
·         COMMON SENSE
Custom is the way of doing certain things like saying “Namaste” or touching feet with respect. Consideration is the most important idea behind all good manners. By being considerate, you appreciate other’s feelings. Besides, all good manners have in them elements of common sense too. for example, pushing your way through a crowd, for an out of turn favor, is definitely bad manners.
Children’s rivalry is there in almost all families. it could be tackled only through good manners. And in order to instill good manners among our children, we must we must lead by example. Here are a few tips:
·         Be appreciative of individual’s abilities and strengths. Do not discuss the weakness of a family member with outsiders.
·         All family discussions should be participative with mutual appreciation and respect.
·         Out of three principal meals of a day, all should eat together at least twice, preferably, switching off the TV and helping each other in serving.
·         Mutual tolerance is very important in family life. Learn to adjust with others. For example, do not make an issue over the TV channel preference.
·         Respect other’s privacy. For example, do not read other’s letters and diaries. Do not open a closed door without knocking and seeking permission to enter.
·         Be polite with callers, while taking telephone calls meant for others. In case of absence of the family member, write down caller’s name, phone number, time of call and message.
·         Keep each other informed about movement, particularly when one is delayed.
